My kid is drunk...asking me if she should wear a a certain shirt right now...
It's Rifflandia 2015 here in Victoria. This means my kid is in drunk party girl mode. This means it is a weekend of suffering for me, the mother. This means my sleep is being affected b/c of drunken shenanigans. One more day...one more day of this then she is in school part time and will have no time for any shenanigans and my sleep will be blissful.
Last weekend my sister and I headed to Vancouver to see Noah Gundersen @ the Biltmore. The day began by Mike picking us up at the ferry in his swanky Buick convertible...pretty fun way to get your hair knotted up, not as fun as 'sex hair' but we take what we can get, you know...
Had a nice lunch at a country club full of rich golfers, met his dogs and wife, enjoyed some Talking Head concert footage (so great!)...and then were surprised by a ride right to the hotel. Very nice of Mike - he is a good shit.
When we hit the hotel we were pretty dead so we enjoyed a few hours of loafing about, eating vending machine snacks and trying to rest up. As we walked up to the Biltmore - Mr. Gundersen was walking beside us and passed us which made the whole travel endeavor worth it (I may have been struck with an attack of Tourette's right then). The place was packed, which was odd b/c when I was there last to see Liam Finn it was a sparse turn out but
apparently NG has developed a following...my sister and I secured a sweet spot to sit on this box on the right hand side of the stage so this getting to SIT was this fat girl with bad knees dream come true...the show was amazing. It was the 1st night of the Carry the Ghost tour so a few bugs were worked out but the performance itself was mint...and not just b/c NG has been partaking in upper body workouts - he ready has hit his stride...flawless performance and Abby, his kid sister who sings like a dream and plays violin and keyboard/piano, was right there on point with him. The whole band is tight - and they churned out a quality show.
At one pointin between swooning and sweating I looked around and had the weird realization that I was the oldest person there...that included staff as well. Surrounded by a slew of 20-somethings (aside from maybe a few ppl in their 30s like my sister). The oldest and fattest person in the room. Always a thrill. Honestly - didn't give any shits about it, was enjoying the show so much...just a funny observation. Got some great swag, got to hear most of my favorite NG songs (except Wandering Bird, love that one but it didn't make the cut) and then headed back to the hotel (5 min walk) where my sister and I were kind of stunned and euphoric the rest of the night. Such a good time.
Next day we had breakfast with Jill and her daughter at Locus on Main...good gawd. Great decor and FRENCH TOAST THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
French Toast Roulade - Berry compote and cream cheese stuffed French bread baked with a crispy cereal coating served with whipped cream and fresh fruit.
I shit you not. Best.breakfast.on.earth. Will ruin you for all future french toast. Thank you to Sabine for not eating it so we all got some.
Bused home to Victoria...always a fucking nightmare treat...then one day until the vacation time was over and I was back to work. Before that I hung with cousin Maggie in Nanaimo...she is pregnant and waiting to birth there...spent 5 days eating bad food with no wifi - so we watched HGTV and had Boggle competitions on our phones. We know how to party, yo. I cannot believe in a few days she is having another child to add to her already crazy brood. I feel kind of sorry for her (HAHAHAHA) but I know it will all work out just fine - can't be nuts forever, right?
Came home the other day to a CLOUD of fruit flies...thanks to Miss A leaving avocado in the sink....the last few days have been a constant battle to kill them all. I perform daily JEN-O-CIDES but still a few stragglers torment me. I have taken the bananas outside so as not to make the problem worse. Requires such diligence. Pray for me. I hate me some fruit flies.
